National stakeholder consultative workshop on value chain upgrading strategies

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply in collaboration with Competence Management Consulting (CMC) recently held a workshop on upgrading value chains.

The workshop was held with support from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and covered the garment, food supplement, and natural cosmetics sectors, according to a joint statement.

As part of the LevelUP — Advancing Jordanian Industries project, the workshop was conducted to identify major constraints, growth bottlenecks, and untapped development opportunities. It also focused on improving the economic inclusion of women and youth in the selected value chains. Based on the findings of a joint analysis, drafted upgrade strategies and related action plans have also been formulated.

The consultative workshop served as a platform to facilitate collaboration and foster a stakeholder-based approach to draft action plans meant to upgrade value chains and bring together decision-level representatives.

The workshop assisted in reaching a consensus on interventions required to develop the targeted value chains for increased women and youth inclusiveness, including priority policy and institutional recommendations, specific interventions at the enterprise level, and the necessary advocacy efforts for implementation in Jordan, according to the statement.

The workshop is only one part of the project aiming to create job opportunities for women and youth — including through self-employment — and support inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
